Hello Decentered Media Patrons,
I hope you’re all doing well. I’m writing with an important update about the next phase of Decentered Media and how your support is shaping our work.
Over the past few months, we’ve been refining our purpose and clarifying how we can make the most significant impact in community-focused communications. We’re especially excited to share that we’re developing a new, collaborative evaluation toolkit—one that helps local authorities, community practitioners, and civic media groups measure their social impact and ensure their communications are inclusive. The key to this toolkit is our iterative approach: we’ll gather feedback at every stage, learn from real-world experiences, and keep refining until it’s a truly valuable resource for everyone who cares about participatory media.
Three Tiers of Support
We’ve reorganised our Patreon into three levels so you can choose the way you want to be involved:
-
Community Supporter (Low-Cost Tier)
-
Ideal for students or unwaged members who want to stay connected and support the podcast and community discussions at an affordable rate.
-
-
Independent Practitioner (Mid-Tier)
-
Geared toward advocates of participatory media who want more insight into our projects, plus a say in the direction of Decentered Media. You’ll get more behind-the-scenes updates and can help shape our podcast topics.
-
-
Development Partner (Top Tier)
-
For those who want a hands-on role in shaping the Community-Focused Communications Evaluation Toolkit. Development Partners will be invited to join our Decentered Media Leadership Discussions on Thursdays at 4pm (via Zoom), where we’ll deep-dive into the toolkit’s progress and explore ways to make it practical, relevant, and responsive to community needs.
-
Weekly Leadership Discussion & Podcast Participation
-
Weekly Zoom Meeting – If you join us at the top tier, you’ll be right in the middle of the action. Every Thursday at 4pm, we’ll discuss toolkit updates, share insights on the changing media landscape, and outline next steps.
-
Podcast Topics – As a Patron, you’ll also have a voice in the Decentered Media podcast. We’ll invite your suggestions for topics, guests, and community stories that highlight how inclusive, value-driven communication can help us navigate an often anxious and antagonistic media environment.
Why Your Support Matters
We’re proud to keep the Decentered Media podcast free to listen, but as you know, producing and distributing quality content comes at a cost. Your Patreon contributions make it possible for us to maintain a regular forum for participatory media, drive the development of the evaluation toolkit, and ensure the thoughtful exchange of ideas. Without you, we couldn’t sustain this unique platform.
The world of media is changing rapidly—sometimes it feels like every day brings a new reason for conflict or anxiety. We are far from living in a media dystopia that AI generates in pictures for us.
Here at Decentered Media, we believe in values-driven dialogue, inclusive social values, and open-minded discussion that welcomes diverse points of view without resorting to divisiveness. Our weekly gatherings, podcasts, and soon-to-launch toolkit all serve as a positive alternative to this climate of antagonism and rancour.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your continued support helps us build a more inclusive media landscape—one that puts communities at the heart of the conversation.
Stay tuned for more updates,
and see you at our next discussion forum!
Warm regards,
Rob
