Decentered Media is committed to promoting academic freedom and freedom of speech. Our policies are based on the principles of Academics for Academic Freedom, which recognises that academic freedom is essential for the pursuit of knowledge and the advancement of society. We believe that the free exchange of ideas and opinions is vital to the intellectual growth of individuals and the progress of society as a whole. We are committed to protecting the intellectual independence of our contributors and ensuring that they are free to question and test received wisdom, and to put forward new ideas and controversial or unpopular opinions, without fear of retribution. We also recognise that the right to free speech can be limited by law, as necessary in a democratic society, but any such limitations must be proportionate.
In addition, we believe that research should be free from pre-determination, and open to examination in a way that does not incur fear or favour. We are committed to ensuring that our contributors are free to conduct research without external pressure or influence, and that their findings are subject to rigorous examination and critique.
