Community Media Discussion – Week Off

Evening All

I don’t know about you, but the weather feels rather grim today! I’m never good with the winter months, with the short days, but adding continual rain as well, making everything damp as well as gloomy, is a bit more depressing.

It’s a good job I’ve got something to look forward to this weekend, and I’m getting away from Leicester for the weekend. I’m going to Bordeaux with my sister to visit the Christmas market. I’m looking forward to having some decent wine, some cheese, and taking time to chill out.

This means that I’m not going to be online this week for our discussion on Thursday, so we’ll have to catch up the following week.

Meanwhile, I want to have a think about some topics to cover for the Decentered Media podcast, and I wondered if you had any ideas?

I was at the UK Community Radio Network conference on Saturday, and gathered some remarks about the prospect of deregulating community radio in the UK. It’s always good to meet other community media people, and thanks to Martin Steers for inviting me to attend and take part. I’ll post the podcast in the next couple of days.

What would be the topics you’d want to hear about, and who do you think are good people to speak with? I’d like to speak with some programme and content makers, especially those from non-traditional media backgrounds, who have a distinctive and recognisable approach.

Drop me a message with any ideas, and we can set something up that we can all take part in.

Don’t forget that MPs will be meeting with BBC Executives on 1st December to question them about the proposed cuts to BBC Local Radio in England. Perhaps we can arrange a ‘watch party’?

Best wishes, and keep dry!

Rob
